Trump is also asserting that there will be no second "closing" if a second wave of coronavirus hits, which is not a thing he gets to decide, but augurs some future ugliness.

I fear it will get ugly anyway. With hindsight being 20-20, I think it was a bad idea to have a uniform mitigation plan for the whole country at once. I think lots of Americans have the impression that the virus has peaked throughout the country. But that’s not how it works. Arizona has certainly not peaked. Neither has Texas. It may have been better to have the CDC develop guidelines for when to implement mitigation and leave implementation purely to the states. Some states may have been able to effectively contain the virus for a longer period, keeping their economies running. By encouraging all states to loosen mitigation measures at the same time, the effect will be increases in cases at the same time everywhere. So, once again, we’ll all be fighting over the same scarce resources for use at the same time. Staggering any peaks that are coming would help because we could shuffle equipment, supplies, and personnel around the country.

Trump announced that all orders preventing Church attendance are to be ended effective immediately and that he'll "override" governors if it is not done so. This is nonsense as he doesn't have that authority, but I guess it lets him get to test the boundaries of dictatorial threats and playact strong for a religious conservative base.

While there's still a lot of uncertainty about how COVID spreads, one of the things that is reasonably clear is that Churches are high-risk settings for spreading the disease, for what is worth.
Um, he didn't issue the orders to begin with, did he? That said, the churches are going to do whatever the churches see fit.

The problem is, I think, that he might threaten to withhold federal funding to states that don't bow down as he recently did for Michigan and I believe Nevada was the other over absentee ballots while Michigan was under literal water. Which proves he's slap out of his authoritarian mind and folks should be paying attention to that ____.

Past flu season deaths can be reached here:

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/past-seasons.html

As we approach 100k COVID-19 deaths looking over the data from previous years really puts this thing into perspective. I wonder if the cdc will add covid-19 in with flu deaths for the 2019-2020 season, or if it’ll break it out into a separate category. Correct me if I’m wrong, but typically flu and pneumonia are reported as one figure, no?

Because I READ your question, I went to the US Department of Health and Human Services website and READ that flu is combined with pneumonia because people don't die from the flu. They die from pneumonia and often are never tested for flu so they aren't diagnosed with influenza. And I READ on the CDC website that flu isn't a reportable illness which doesn't make sense to me, but that's what I READ. If that doesn't make sense to you, I'm happy to go READ it again and correct my statements.

tl;dc (too lazy;didn’t click) - Packed pools, restaurants, and bars. No masks. Heartland. Will the heat be an effective COVID-19 barrier? Let’s hope so.

Also. WATCH OZARK ON NETFLIX. HOLY HELL.

I JUST frickin' saw that! I'm going to keep an eye on the counties involved: Benton, Camden, Miller, Morgan and see if they spike with new cases in the next 2 weeks or so.

I can't NOT believe how stupid people are. I wonder how many of those folks will end up dead or feel like they died in a couple or three weeks?

Well. I’m hoping the heat and sunshine act as effective disinfectants. As much as it seems like we’re at each others’ throats, I don’t want my fellow Americans and by extension my fellow humans all over the world to get sick from this stuff. For example, I’m hoping ldsfaqs is staying inside (heh), wearing a mask when he goes out, and is safe. I don’t want him to be hospitalized.

I saw an exchange about this series on one of these threads a few weeks ago and so gave it a shot. I finished all 3 seasons a week ago. Season 1 started out good enough, but I was iffy, trying too hard to be a breaking-bad knockoff except husband wife are a team from the beginning. But it was strong, and growing on me be end of season. Season 2 hit the mud with all the politics stuff, moving from Breaking Bad to House of Cards, which was junk after the first season. Mid-season 2, I think, it picked up again. Season 3 is off the rails. As good as pretty much anything out there. [semi-spoiler] The absolutely most satisfying scene of the entire series is when the brother drives to a certain person's house and offers a few revelations. Maybe it's partly because, as a metaphor, it's like shoving Letter to a CES Director in front of the face of any true believer with a working moral compass[/semi-spoiler]. I hate most of the characters at this point and hope they die. I guess that means the writers are doing their job. The endless justifications are also a window in the soul of Mopologetics.

I don't want to see people get sick either. It's just that I'm so tired of seeing stupid fly across the screen every day.

I keep my social distancing, but I don't wear a mask.

I'm pretty sure he thinks he can just say a thing enough times and people will start to buy it. He's never had an opponent like quickly demonstrated science before.

Science doesn't lose. The virus doesn't give a ____ about Trump's selfish aspirations.
