Often when receiving the first token of the Melchizedek priesthood the temple worker would poke the thumb and finger pretty hard into the palm and back of the hand to make sure you felt the pain from the pretended nail. The symbolism of poking ourselves in the temple with a pretend nail is just bat ____ crazy. So, I figure they can have blood too to go along with it -- hence the graphic and over-the-top images of this thread. It's meant to get one thinking that poking oneself with a nail is going to draw blood. Poking oneself with a pretend nail is going to draw pretend invisible blood even though they can't see it. When a nail punctures flesh there is always blood. Hence, there is invisible blood all over the endowment rooms and veils of the temples. The temple is a bloody mess.
