Handshake is now a thing of the past?

Post by Shulem »

For all intents and purposes it appears that Covid 19 may be the death of handshaking. Here are just a few secular articles that discuss how Corona threatens this age old practice:

Will the Handshake Become a Thing of the Past?
Is shaking hands a thing of the past?
Are handshakes a thing of the past?

QUESTION: Will the Mormon Church put an end to the common practice of handshaking at public events such as church meetings and activities? Will bishops receive official instruction from Salt Lake to cease handshaking and offer another gesture in its stead?

QUESTION: Will Mormon missionaries be instructed to use an alternate form of greeting?

QUESTION: Will entry into a Mormon temple endowment room require each person to rub hand sanitizer in order to gain entry?

Further, will the scriptures need to be updated?
D&C 129 wrote:4 When a messenger comes saying he has a message from God, offer him your hand and request him to shake hands with you.
5 If he be an angel he will do so, and you will feel his hand.
6 If he be the spirit of a just man made perfect he will come in his glory; for that is the only way he can appear
7 Ask him to shake hands with you, but he will not move, because it is contrary to the order of heaven for a just man to deceive; but he will still deliver his message.
8 If it be the devil as an angel of light, when you ask him to shake hands he will offer you his hand, and you will not feel anything; you may therefore detect him.
