He is a socialist IMHO. Though the bailout of GM IMHO makes a grey line as government has NO business saving private corporations or being involved in business at all.
If he was a socialist then why didn't he nationalize the auto industry? Instead he used the government in a pretty capitalist manner...he [he=the United States government including Congress] lent money that will be paid back with interest that not to mention was very successful at not only saving GM and Chrysler but also the secondary jobs that support the auto industry.
Nor forcing people into an insurance policy under threat of tax penalties.
The mandate was put in in an ill fated attempt to gain bipartisan support from Republicans. It'll probably be shot down by the Supreme Court anyway.
What do you think about the rest of Obamacare (the parts that people don't talk about yet get 70%+ support when polled separately from the mandate)?
He has blatantly attacked capitalism, especially free-market capitalism, and he seems to ignore the 10th Amendment, making him an overly strong federalist, almost ignoring state rights.
How has he blatantly attacked capitalism? Private sector jobs have increased under Obama while public sector jobs have shrank. Remember the Jobs Plan he put forward at the State of the 2011 Union? Money for infrastructure so that private companies could build bridges? How would that have hurt capitalism? Is the DOW Industrial average not higher than it was when Obama entered office? Are the top companies of America not currently sitting on hundreds of billions of dollars in *CASH*?
Also just about every President since Teddy Roosevelt have ignored the 10th Amendment so you can't really act like Obama has overstepped the powers accumulated to the Presidency over the years.
I think Free-market capitalism can work if Socialists like Obama would back down and allow it to work.
The free market is an illusion with all those things we do to undermine the quest for profit, like minimum wages, breaks for workers, safety codes, certifications for professions and whatnot. Either way the economy has basically been on auto pilot since the Republicans have come to office and not put forward any plan for jobs except tax cuts for the rich while cutting benefits for the poor.
