He openly identified himself as a social leftist well before his election, and governed his state, despite his reams of gaseous rhetoric, as a unalloyed left leaning statist/interventionist in all other respects.
The United States needs to return to its classical liberal/Judeo-Christian roots - the core of the founding principles of the Declaration and the rules of law imposed by the Constitution, or it will be, well within our own lifetimes, at its end. Once America is gone as a classical liberal grounded nation based in limited government by the consent of the governed, unalienable rights, natural rights, the rule of law, and individual liberty, there will be nowhere else to run (let alone hide).
This is it; the last place on earth containing anything like the range and depth of individual liberties and opportunities within which a people can thrive, prosper, and seek their dreams (pursuit of happiness).
However, freedom and liberty are not absolute, and must be mediated and conditioned by other delimiting and controlling principles. Freedom, of the kind conceived by the Declaration and Constitution, is of little value and can turn upon itself and devour its own children without a moral and virtuous people at the core of such a social order.
Much of our society having lost its moral, ethical, and spiritual (and hence, intellectual) bearings, two extreme poles now present themselves for consideration as humanity panics and runs around in circles seeking to place blame on the nearest politically correct goat within reach: the return of utopian collectivism and democracy, both historic (and closely allied) failures that have visited calamitous depredations upon human well being throughout history (and utopian socialism has been the most prolific as to the destruction of human well being among all the failed ideologies of human history)
The decay and dissolution of our economic, military, scientific, educational, and manufacturing infrastructure is merely symptomatic of the fact that, to a great extent, Jesus Christ is no longer the God of this land for a critical mass of its citizens, and a majority of the people have begun to openly choose wickedness, at the voting booth, in that which they consume and support in open markets of media, entertainment, news, and culture, and in the continuing degradation of the family, over righteousness. Far, far too many, including much of government, business, academia, the media, and the entertainment world, support, aid, abet, and nourish the Gadianton Robbers in our midst (and some of them are, in point of fact, intellectual, literary, and
cultural Gadianton Robbers themselves).
Things are nearing "ripeness," it would seem, and, over the course of my lifetime, it appears as well that the pace of such movement toward the time at which the fruit will fall from the tree is increasing, as is the scope and intensity of such change.
Oh, sorry, I meant, "hope and change."
