Romney and do a segment "Romney and the Curse of Cain"; because you can be sure of two things:
1. Romney will be the Republican nominee.
2. Pro-Obama forces will use the "Curse of Cain" against Romney!
This is a major story. If you interview Romney, he should be asked:
"Govenor, have you heard of the Curse of Cain Doctrine that your Church used to teach?"
Romney will equivocate.
"Govenor Romney, do you think that the Curse of Cain Doctrine, taught by your Church for 130 years, was a mistake?"
He will equivocate
"Govenor, do you want the leaders of your Church to issue a Public Apology for the Curse of Cain Doctrine?"

We all know that "60 Minutes" will surely do this, right? What you really want, Darrick, is just to heap more prejudice and persecution upon the Church, and to ensure that America never has Mormon president, because of its "wacko beliefs" (the irony).

Did Kennedy believe in transubstantiation? Perhaps, but more important is that he even associated with a Church that did, yet was still elected president.

They're already too busy using the Florida neighborhood watch shooting to play the race card; except that they're playing it against the Hispanics.

1. The Church DID teach the Curse of Cain Doctrine as "a doctrine of the Church" for 130 years.

I might be a bit rusty here, but let's see, in Kennedy's youth the Roman Catholic church taught that when Blacks took communnion, there was no transubstantiation so Blacks could be spared the burden of receiving the real presence of Christ.

Actually it was for their own good and a blessing because Blacks just weren't ready for the real presence and having it would have done them harm actually.

Hi Mary, and thanks (as always) for your constructive comments. You're one "voice" I always pay attention to, because I believe you're a fair and honest person who always tries to be balanced. I have a very close friend who was directly affected by the prohibition, and joined the Church knowing it. He served a building mission, then, in 1978, after the "lifting of the Pharaoh's curse" (Mauss and Bush term/title), he received the priesthood and married in the temple. Although he's inactive now, his "heart" is still very much with the Church. He's never been a critic, and I've never heard him speak derogatively of the Church, something I can't say for myself.

In regard to the petition, I'm not entirely in agreement with some of the wording. Apart from that, I don't believe the Church will respond to petitions. We learned this from the 1960s and early '70s, when the Church was under pressure to change its policy. If they had changed in response to immediate pressure, there would have been no end to criticism, so it was a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't". That's not to say I think the petition is "misguided", only that it will have, in my view, no effect at all.

Why on earth does anyone think that the American public would give a damn about the Curse of Cain doctrine?

Holland in that interview said he thinks now that the Curse of Cain Doctrine was a mistake. Of course, that is NOT what LDS Public Affairs is saying and has said since 1996. They speak for the Church. It is their JOB to speak for the Church. They are saying: "The Church NEVER taught that blacks are cursed". Yes, that is what they've been saying since 1996.

LDS Public Affairs has been saying since 1996: "No, the Church never taught that blacks are cursed. The Church never taught they are the children of Cain. The Church never taught they are they were less valiant in the War in Heaven. Some Members may have at one time believed this folklore, but it was never a doctrine of the Church."
