In 1954 Reuben J. Clark gave an address to seminary and institute employees on the subject, "When Are the Writings and Sermons of Church Leaders Entitled to the Claim of Scripture?" The title itself interested me, because it claims to answer the question, "When is something scripture?" This should have lots of relevance because it is related to the question, "What is official doctrine?" a question that pops up during almost any dialogue between critics and apologists.
