The semi-annual torture has begun. I hear the choir.

L. Tom Perry now. Gosh, he's aged a bit. Keep the Sabbath day holy.

Primary president wins the prize for the First Mention of Tithing, in her talk about the importance of children in the lives of adult members.

Walter Rodrigues? Gonzalez? Anyway... he's talking about how men treat their wives, and I loved the lady who asked "is that fact or fiction?" when the men in the story all claimed to treat their wives well. (although who's going to man up to admit they walk outside the recommend with their treatment of their wives and children?)

I think he also clocked in the first reference to the Pearl of Great Price, quoting Enoch from Moses.

All the Best!

Pres Monson gets the First to Mention the Latest Unpredicted Natural Disaster Award, straight out of the box.

Man, he's good!

Elder Cook/Kent? Opposition and suffering are necessary. There doesn't appear to be any good reason why some people suffer lots more than say... the Brethren...

I think Elder Cook is next.

This speaker is giving the customary talk about pain, which I tend to see as a thinly veiled apology for why priesthood blessings have a less than stellar track record.

Call my cynical . . .

Though not without reason.

All the Best!

There it is now.

Redefining being healed as not being healed.

Just being given strength to endure.

Now Elder Cook is up, and it looks like he will talk about how wonderful LDS women are.

I agree, but suspect there may yet come some distinction between women and men and why men get the priesthood and women do not.

Ah, here it comes. Right on schedule.

It seems to me that Monson suggested that contributing to the missionary fund is equivalent to giving to the Japan disaster directly, because missionaries are helping.

Elder Cook just mentioned something important, I think, by saying that women who choose to work outside the home should not be viewed as second class members.

Kudos to Elder Cook!

It's sad that in 2011 somebody feels that that even needs to be said.

You are right, of course, but if it needs to be said anywhere, it is in the LDS Church, and I am glad it was said by an apostle.

This marks a complete reversal from President Benson's comments (and a pamphlet, too, I believe!) back in the 1980's.

____________

President Eyring just started speaking.

I am counting the seconds until he begins to choke up . . .

Maybe I heard him wrong but it sounded like President Eyring just said. in reference to methods of helping the poor.

"I cannot speak of the mall in our brief time together."

Strange.

I expect they will move the "m" to the end of the preceding word in the official reports.

(Very funny, by the way!)

Did he just say seek out to help those in the kingdom first, before others?
