Recovering...you'll see why. I'm going to be entirely forthcoming here. The good, the bad, and the flippin' fantastic. Please bear with me.

So we set out for Denver (me driving) when I didn't get 20 minutes from home, started a panic attack, had to pull off into a 7-11 parking lot to get through it when the one who was riding with me called the other one to come to the parking lot and take over driving because Mom's losing her ____. Me sitting in my car doing all my assistive stuff like a freak. I've got it all in play--my recording that I use, relaxation breathing, self massage (arms, don't get crazy). Breathe in 5, hold 2, breathe out 5. And it starts to pass.

The recording is the soundtrack from A Walk in the Woods, a film I mentioned to Cam during his AT hike because it's about an AT hike. He recommended the book to me. The sound track is transcendent. I mean it.

(Remember when I wrote that I had my heart shocked 2 weeks ago and get panic attacks afterwards? I never had time to recover from those because we had people in the hospital.)

Got up to the Sheraton Downtown Denver Hotel and oh my God I HATE the city. Too many people (and dogs), too many cars, too much noise and tall buildings that make me feel like a trapped rat with an anxiety disorder. The car gets crammed into valet parking for which I paid 49$ and didn't flinch for a single second. Checked in and the room doesn't have the third bed in it. One of my kids calls and raises hell. Gets the bed AND a discount on the room. We settle in and decide to nap for an hour before we head over to the stadium.

Everyone gets ready and we're down waiting for Uber. Kavonte picks us up :-) and it's an easy ride across I-25. Let's us out, we start walking...I know we need to find Gate 4. As we're walking I see the freaking steps to the levels and start dying inside. The medication I take slows my heart rate and while I can exercise really well, steps are like death to me. Keep walking, finally find "the line" and...no steps!!!

Entering the stadium is like TSA at any busy airport. Clear bags, metal detector. I set off the metal detector because I'm on a 30-day event monitor because--long story. Finally get through, shove ourselves through a sea of people and get into the actual stadium. More steps. I did fine. :-)

This is my first time in a huge stadium except for wherever I saw the Mariners in Seattle which was probably the Kingdome. I do NOT remember it being this HUGE. My god the place was my idea of introvert hell surrounded by people all around me, on top of me, below me, people as far as the eye can see whichever way I look. Once again I feel trapped. I'm essentially in a coffin with people sitting on the lid and there's no way out of this.

We get there just after the opening act. Somebody and the Night Sweats. It's still daylight. We get in our seats. Remember this is Colorado with legal weed. Weed for days. This old hippie guy sitting next to one of my kids starts passing a joint. Offered it to me, I say I'd love to but I'm not sure if it'd be good for my heart. He tells me he's got a pacemaker and it's great for his heart. I decline anyway. Instead I slam a beta blocker because now I'm getting keyed up because I'm in the coffin. There's a video of me on Facebook right now in full blown panic attack--it was enough to alarm one of my relatives in Jersey. In hindsight, I should have taken the hit.

continued...

So I'm sitting in my seat getting videoed during a panic attack, hoping there is really such a thing as a contact high and the air is so hot I want to die. I wait for the set up for the Stones which I thought would take longer than it did but the Stones lived up to their reputation for being a well oiled machine and I'm watching the screens when all of a sudden they start the graphics that I've seen a million times on youtube but it feels surreal when it's live, the national anthem (I can see Keith and his guitar in the shadows with my trusty binoculars) seques into ...

Ladies and Gentlemen. The Rolling Stones!!!!!!

Keith walks up front plays the first chord of Street Fighting Man, Charlie follows, Jagger blasts in like a bat out of hell--fist pumping in the air, Ronnie has run in, Darryl is on the sax, I get on my feet and...

I rise.

They go right into Let's Spend the Night Together. By the time they get to Tumbling Dice, I'm barefoot in Mile High Stadium dancing my ass off like it's my job.

Everyone is dancing. The stoners young and old, the kids, the old folks, everyone around us is on their feet dancing and I start to love the crowd because nobody cares what you're doing. Toking a joint, dancing, singing, beer drinking, sitting, people in wheel chairs clapping their hands, no one flipping cares what anyone else is doing because they're all there for the same thing. The crowd is vibrating with the music.

How anyone can sit in those air conditioned box type seats is beyond me. Don't they want to breathe the same air that the Stones are breathing? Don't they want to FEEL them?

How does it FEEL? How does it FEEL?

Like a Rolling Stone was the song that I voted for. I swear, I was right back in school singing it with the same attitude I had then. Probably singing it to the same people that I did back then. ;-) It belongs to Dylan and I don't know when they started performing it but I love that they do. I love that my vote won!

The B stage performance was awesome. Sweet Virginia and Dead Flowers. I love Sweet Virginia because in my mind, it's about putting aside the ____ in life and moving forward. "Time to scrape that ____ right off your shoes". Yes, I know it's about drugs but all kinds of things can take you away, drive you down and wreck your life.

One of the things I love most about the Stones 400 plus song catalog is the attitude that lies under most of the songs.

From the B stage, they walk the catwalk back to the A stage and as they are doing so, the drums start for Sympathy. The graphics for Sympathy were dead on. Fire, swirling smoke, red, yellow...fiery lightning. The band goes into the shadows and Jagger comes into the light in his sequined studded morning coat and black fedora. Does the deed.

If anyone reading here wonders how anyone could possibly appreciate a song about Lucifer: Read the lyrics.

And no. The murder at Altamont didn't happen during Sympathy. It happened during Under my Thumb.

Keith Richards loves me.

This is how I know. He hung on the opening riff to Honky Tonk Woman for a loooong time. I hoped for it. I dreamed of it. And he did it. Just like I wanted him to. Because he loves me.

Then he performed two more songs solo while Jagger took a little break. (Maybe for an EKG). You Got the Silver (love) and Before They Make Me Run (also love). He sang those directly to me. I'm just sayin''. I puffy heart Keith Richards and Keith Richards puffy hearts me. <3

They started to rev it back up going into the second set. And I started to rev up. Not good. By the time they got 3/4 of the way into Rambler it got so intense (or I got so intense) that I thought I was legit DYING from the sound and bright red graphics. I'm talking Voldemort's last scene at Hogwarts, full-on- full-blown-panic attack-mother of all melt downs. I had to close my eyes and cover my ears. Breathe 5, 2, 5. Vibrating from the inside out. Repeat 5,2,5. Wishing I had the guts to reach over for a hit on the joint old hippie Tim is toking over there. My head is going to explode. I'm burning up from the inside out. Just. one. hit. Just one.

But I don't do it. I stick it out.

I don't know how I got out of it. The song ended. I got out of it. See? You get a little Stones review and an overview of post traumatic stress all in the same thread. ;-)

The wind started blowing. Finally. Air. Thank god. Air.

Let me say this. The videos on youtube and your digital collection, even your old vinyl does not begin to do justice to the quality and clarity of the sound system in the concert stadium. The entire performance was FLAWLESS and I mean it. This is what happens when you have 5+ decades of practice. It's what mastery sounds like.

It is what royalty sounds like and what legends are made of.

Forget the drugs. Forget the womanizing. Forget whatever else you think of when you hear the name Rolling Stones. The Stones are Rock 'n Roll legends for a reason and not just because they survived.

There's nothing wrong with surviving. With the exception of the untimely death of Brian Jones, they're the only early rock band that could pull off a reunion of living original members. If Bill Wyman wanted to step back in for a performance, he could do it. Mick Taylor has stepped in to guest spot.

The Beatles can't do it. The Who can't do it. None of the early bands can really do it and do justice to it like the Rolling Stones can. They're all still here and still working professionally. They really are professional.

They were on FIRE, seamless, and smooth. The sound was exquisite. Their songs have stood the test of time. There were grandparents with their grandchildren at this concert. There are millions of people around the globe, people of all ages that simply need to sing...I can't get no satisfaction.

Because sometimes we can't.

I read that they rehearse for two months before going on tour. They have recorded over 400 songs. They can't recall how to play or sing each one down to the tiniest detail. I think Keith Richards still doesn't know how to read music so song sheets don't help. He originally recorded his music on cassette tape so he'd remember how to play it. And so they rehearse as close to perfection as they can get, truck it out to us, and let it ride live.

Each concert is different. They're not using autotune or whatever it's called. When they perform live, every song is performed just a bit different. They change up the setlist because they can. So that the concert you go to is different than the others. They improvise. They weave. They pick it up and put it down at will. This isn't a record or CD. These are master musician's at work.

Mick is the face and the voice. Keith is the heartbeat and the soul.

Mick is the flash. Keith is the groove.

I read somewhere that Mick acts out Keith's persona. Think about it. Makes sense.

They met when they were 4/5 years old. Keith has referred to Mick as his wife.

When they went into Sugar, the whole audience rose to their feet again, dancing and singing. Stratospheric energy. So cool! And then they said goodnight, thank you, and left.

No they didn't.

Two encore numbers: Gimme Shelter and Satisfaction. To perfection.

We gave old hippie Tim a hug and left as they were taking their final bows because we foolishly thought we'd leave the building, summon an UBER and get back to the hotel.

We briefly stopped for memorabilia. Very expensive. I got a Licks mug. Don't know how much it cost. I threw a credit card down, signed, and made off with it.

An ocean of people are flowing out of the stadium. Remember we're not stadium goers. A guy tells us that UBER is picking up at the Denny's across the road. We start walking. It's all uphill. We're tired, we're hot, we're getting testy. The guy was lying. The UBER/Lyft is right on the road, not at the Denny's. UBER repeatedly takes and cancels our ride for nearly an hour. The hotel shuttle is running but they've dropped the schedule because the area is congested with traffic. Kid's sitting a concrete slab with a phone in each ear, one for UBER, one for Lyft. It's basically every man for himself. I suggest co-opting someone else's ride and get ignored. I knew I could do it.

Some UBER or Lyft driver pulls up in the parking lot behind us, gets out of his car cussing his brains out at the rider. "You wanna drive the car? You're a goddamn drunk. Get out of my ____ car!" (What am I in Jersey?) I look around for possible cover.

Finally the heavens open and we get a driver that we can actually see coming across the road! He pulls into the parking lot, some cop comes and punches the hood of his car for what reason I don't know--he flings open the door and we're like criminals jumping into a getaway car.

And we get away. The driver is a resident at a local hospital. Apparently residents don't get paid so he drives UBER for 2 days. Get this. He's a cardiologist. Not joking. On the way back to the hotel, he gets a text from his wife "Oh Jesus Christ! Who is that?" He picks up the phone and shows us his wife's text..."Ass!" It was the best laugh we had all day, except for old hippie Tim. We discuss heart arrhythmia, meds, ablation procedures, and a 16 hour quad bypass surgery on a 500 pound man who died multiple times during the surgery. He got a copy of the video of the surgery to show to the man how many times he died. He said that when the man saw it, it scared him ____ enough to want to lose weight.

I authorized a 50$ tip. One of my co-riders thought I was nuts. I basically said that I try to be generous whenever I can especially when someone has been kind to me. I know it's his job, but still. He was kind and he made me laugh.

We crashed. Got up this morning, threw on clothes, ate whatever and as soon as I got into the car...I calmed down. What the heck. It was SO good to get out of the city.

So.

Was it worth 2K+? Yes.

Would I do it all over again? No.

I'm thrilled to have done it. I've loved the Stones from the very beginning. They are in my DNA. But, I am not a stadium person. You couldn't pay me enough to go back into a large stadium. Unless they start playing smaller venues, which they could, this was it for me. Or...and this is tentative. I was thinking about old hippie Tim and his weed. Thinking I might try edibles or CBD oil for anxiety. If that works and the Stones tour another year, I'd be all over it!

Then I'd have my hit and the Stones, too!

p.s. Please read or listen to Keith Richard's autobiography, "Life". If you have no respect for the man, think he's a washed up dirty old recovered smack addict...it will change your mind. I guarantee it.

Thanks for reading if you did!

Shades. I met a woman who was eating a little bag of edibles in the lobby before the concert. She'd been to 42 Stones concerts. She's been to almost every concert on this current tour. Who has the money to fly around the country following the Stones from state to state?

I coughed up major bucks for this. I can't imagine where anyone gets the funds to do it multiple times!

Some songs mentioned...starting with the opening song. I didn't spend much time taking video. I was dancing.

These are all from youtube. Folks are still uploading.

Street Fighting Man
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPpGKI1 ... dio=1&t=10

First 24 minutes or so (Includes the vote song presentation)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rh3RXX9KDVg

Tumbling Dice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H3hAuT ... Pg&index=2

End of Tumbling Dice from the catwalk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwAkHfptSuY

Sympathy to Honky Tonk Woman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgQIaWGtyC4

Like a Rolling Stone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ayuo6z_LdE

Dead Flowers on B Stage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11ubJVN8BAA

Miss You, Gimme Shelter, Satisfaction
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rh3RXX9KDVg

The sound right in the stadium was nothing like the videos. It was clear, pure, and completely stellar. Only the speaking parts were difficult to hear in person.

Otherwise, it was 2 hours of bliss!

Yeah! And the songs came so fast without skimping on the actual run time of each song. 19 songs in just over 2 hours. I don't know how they do it, honestly I don't.

From the videos it looks and sounds like it was a very good concert, Jersey Girl. Good set list. That's fantastic. I was at the Fillmore off of 16th Street the Saturday before. Not the Rolling Stones, mind you, but very enjoyable watching Bush (+Live). Machine Head, Little Things, The Sound of Winter, Glycerine, Everything Zen, and Come Down. I will probably try to catch the recently announced show for October 12 in Salt Lake City.

I am having a nostalgic renaissance with 90s music. Bush and the Offspring are my two favorites, but would I love it if the Gallagher brothers would resurrect Oasis. I also will probably get a chance to see Green Day next year.

Saw The Offspring last year at an outdoor punk fest which was fun. They were the main stage main act band that closed it out, with bands like Pennywise and Rancid on before them. It was a a good time and some good memories it brought back to mind. I never saw The Offspring before, but had friends who claimed to have seen them in the early 90s at the what was the Whittier in Logan Utah before they broke out.

Fun is definitely the one word description of a concert by The Offspring.

So as I mentioned throughout this thread, I had hoped the Stones would play Beast and they never did. It was never performed in any of the concerts, never came up in the song vote. I figured Jagger's deeper voice might have not been able to handle it...or something. And so they never played it.

Until last night in Seattle.

It came up on the song vote. I knew it'd win. It did and they did it. I am patiently waiting for a concert goer to come up with a video of it.

Seattle sure got lucky last night!
