This was accepted by a predatory journal, so a slightly different thing, but this is probably my favorite hoax paper:

That is hilarious. Personally, I would have paid the $150 to get it published.
It’s relatively easy to agree that only Homo sapiens can speak about things that don’t really exist, and believe six impossible things before breakfast. You could never convince a monkey to give you a banana by promising him limitless bananas after death in monkey heaven.

Slate ran a piece on this that made a simple observation I think a lot of people missed at first in their commentary:

https://slate.com/technology/2018/10/gr ... andal.html

While the authors of Sokal squared purport to be showing a deep flaw in the whole basket of humanities based cultural studies, they mostly just hit paydirt with gender-focused publications.

I thought about sharing that before, as it was, an interesting contribution. But what I'm really here to share is this:

It's been making the rounds. This is a footnote in an actual non-hoax paper that managed to get published from two of the Sokal squared folks - Peter Boghossian, James Lindsay. I haven't read the original source yet, but I have no reason to believe it isn't legit. It's so dumb, I think it made my eyes bleed. Change the context and tell me this is another hoax paper, and I'd laugh pretty hard. This actually made me more curious about what what happen in all sorts of fields if hoaxers tried their hardest to infiltrate their publishing mechanisms.
