He really was, is and always will be a “meathead”

https://www.breitbart.com/video/2018/08 ... civil-war/

He can’t produce a movie, so let’s try a second life of what idiots do and become a meatheat media pontificator.

Apple fell far from the tree in this case!

It's funny but you're consciously or unconsciously mimicking the President's style of take down. But to reduce Rob Reiner to Archie Bunker's epithet would be to ignore the rest of his career. This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, A Few Good Men, Misery, Stand By Me...the man has had some good success a a creative force. I may not like Clint Eastwood's politics, but Dirty Harry analogies are a little trite.

To be honest, I think there are some very base things that are making EVERYONE stressed, left and right, beyond the normal talking points about politics, race, et cetera. Until those are solved, all the wholesome memes in the world aren't going to solve our problems.

Some that I could think of:

1) Constant attention on things that make people angry; especially on the internet, but also in media. There seems to be a new thing with 10k upvotes every single day on "news" subreddits which basically boil down to "someone somewhere is an idiot". Like, "Someone who means nothing said something dumb on Twitter! Wait, someone wrote a dumb opinion article! Please take a side! Silence is morally reprehensible!"

People seem to be of the belief that this is just how the internet works and it's just something we'll have to live with, but as someone who knows Japanese and follows a lot of Japanese people on Twitter, I regret to inform you all that they're all a lot more positive and kind to each other on average (on average mind you, there are still isolated incidents), despite arguably looking at a more dire economic/individual future.

I'm not a political scientist or anything, but I have my own theory about this: it's as they say, disagreement + proximity = conflict. And if everyone is on the same internet speaking the same language, then it's impossible to be comfortably distant from things you disagree with. We have to share the same internet space with those we hate, we have to receive their replies, their messages, and constantly sit under their gaze. Which leads me into my next point:

2) Constant better-than-thou they-deserved-it culture. I have no idea how long this has been a thing. I remember reading a comment some time ago that it really began to ramp up post-9/11, but someone older than me will have to comment on that.

People are constantly walking around with a chip on their shoulder. They want to be the one in that situation where they put someone in their place, and then everyone claps. They so desperately want to "call someone out" for being horrible that they actively seek out horribleness, and when they can't find it they create it. People don't want to change minds, they aren't arguing to better the world, they just want to make the other person feel bad. Talking on the internet about ANYTHING constantly feels like I'm trying to disassemble a ticking bomb, choosing each word carefully so I don't trigger an explosion of people being angry. Anyway, that's probably why this post won't last a day before I go deleting it. I really just want to get this all off my chest.

People are so obsessed with their identity, and anything that defines them, vehemently defend their in-group and vehemently insult the out-group; whether that be politics or damned video game fandoms. Lets find a random online community and talk about how cancer it is! Look, this one person is acting weird! Good thing we're better than them! Now I feel better about my own powerless life! Which leads me into the next one:

3) Economics and powerlessness. This manifests in a number of ways; a pretty common one is the wage gap between the 1% and everyone else, but there are a billion ways that this is happening.

Money is a really basic form of power, and so many people just don't have enough of it. We rely on the rich to provide us with jobs, because we can't afford to hire anyone for our own companies and make them ourselves. It doesn't matter if you work hard, the real money is in hiring people to work hard for you. There used to be a prevalent myth that the rich and powerful were somehow smarter and more talented than the average person, and therefore deserving of wealth, but more and more social media is exposing this as the lie it is. They just have money, and therefore make money.

On another note, I find it funny that both the right and left right now are basically both just shouting that "the government is doing things we don't want it to" and somehow they're in disagreement about it. It feels like our governments just use our money to do whatever they want, regardless of what the general public opinion is. Corporations say do something, and that's what goes. When it's something that makes absolutely no sense, just turn it into a political issue, and voila! Half the country now supports it. This is nothing new, but it seems like the "turn it into a political issue" strategy is getting more and more refined, to the detriment of our culture. And the lack of money and power leads to

4) Everyone's life sucking. Hyperbole, maybe, but I think there's some truth to it. Why are so many people having trouble finding love? Why don't we have more vacation time? Why are people holding a job still living with their parents? Why don't people want to have children? No time, no money, no time, no money. (Oh, but it's probably the out-group's fault.)

Everyone's just so tired of it all. They're tired of having to work all the time. They're tired of having to be the smartest person on earth just to get a living wage. They look ahead and just see a black void of doing nothing and becoming nothing.

Good luck fixing all of that, and I really mean it. I didn't mean to get so negative, but I don't think the solutions will be simple.

I recommend reading the entire copypasta. It's good to reflect on one's own behavior and how it fits within the national and local narratives we're seeing.

That was my first thought as well. Apparently, Carroll O'Connor was a really nice guy.

Perhaps we should also let Bach know that Mark Hamill can't lift rocks with telekinesis either.
