Re: Venting about Hillary
Anti-establishment sentiment always plays well. When's the last time Congress had an approval rating above 50%. Ever?
Every single election involves candidates trying to credibly claim they'll shake up business as usual in Washington.
Regarding Democrats stepping in the void to lead the party in 2020, Sanders is so obviously running for president. I don't know how anyone can feel comfortable electing an 80 year old who would be 88 by the end of two terms to the most stressful job in the country, but there you have it. The guy has maniacal ambition, but is branded in such a way that he won't get crushed for it like Clinton did. He wants to be president and he's a clear frontrunner for the Dem nomination. He might not be Clinton-level of a frontrunner, but he's a strong candidate because of the all the good-will he's built up.
As for Democrats who would be good candidates who are under the radar, I've been saying for a while they need someone like Inslee or Hickenlooper.

What? He's more of a liberal end of the New Deal liberal. He's been kinda moderating his positions over the past 6 months in some ways because, again, he's totally running. We know who he is. He's a self-described socialist who is more of an American liberal's liberal. He just proposed a universal health care plan that would be one of the most generous in the world if not thee most generous in the world. When did Thomas Dewey do that?
I would agree that the real danger with Trump isn't policies like a stupid border wall or tax cuts for the wealthy. Those are reversible. It's in his corruption and destruction of democratic norms. Trump's admin does a lot more damage whipping up hatred of journalism or in Orwellian disinformation than it does in easing environmental regulations.
Re: Venting about Hillary
Hillary Clinton certainly has the right to tell her story. I usually find first-person accounts by politicians to lack a lot of perspective. In the case of the 2016 election especially, there are so many threads to follow that we have not seen to the end, I think a lot of speculation is premature.
But in some ways I think talking about Hillary Clinton right now is sucking the oxygen out of the room at the wrong time. In that sense I am sick of Hillary Clinton the way I'm sick of Donald Trump. We've been talking about the Clintons since 1992. She's not running again. I'm not really ready to devote a lot of time to her personal postmortem.

Re: Venting about Hillary
Both Trump and Sanders can be noted for making promises they either can't deliver or promises that once delivered would have disastrous consequences.
Everyone would muddle through regardless of the consequences, except possibly the very poor of which many would perish under Republican Nationalist Conservatism (possibly the gypsies and Jehovah Witnesses too).
Bill Maher thinks the Republicans under Trump are set to win again in 2020. Republican Nationalist Conservatism (RNC) might be here to stay, especially if they team up with Oligarch Russia (OR).

Could's be. Mueller and Schneiderman are closing in on Drumpf, and associates. His base is pissed at him right now. Plus 2020 is an census year. So who knows right now how those will effect the election.

We had better learn to distinguish between an imperfect friend and a deadly enemy. Ideology doesn't get people elected, and it only serves to drive a wedge within the Democratic party through which the Republicans can enter.

Democracy sucks sometimes.
You got that right. Themis won't mind you saying so. It sent him into a rage when I said it. Wonder why?

From what I have seen, the ideological purists of the Left have been doing a fine job of treating "imperfect" friends (those who don't necessarily agree with everything) as bitter enemies. I usually cast my vote in accordance with my beliefs and conscience and leave the internal feuding to others. I happily voted for Hillary. But I know that is not enough for a fair number of Dems. That's fine. So I won't get invited to all the social events and people can dismiss me as someone who doesn't really "get it."
