The Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte announced that the country would separate from its longstanding relationship with the US and ally with China. Duterte said he also wanted to open a dialogue with Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin.

In a speech on Thursday, Duterte announced his country's "separation" from the US, in terms of "military, not maybe social, but economics also. America has lost," he said. He stopped short of saying he would revoke treaty commitments with the US, and the White House has said it has received no official requests to change its cooperation with the Philippines.

WAIT! before we get bogged down with some sort of substance based discussion on the pro/con politics of being in the South China Sea, let us focus on the more important matter...a matter that will allow us to be distracted by doing what we love to do - talking about ourselves.

He accompanied that announcement with a mocking impression of how Americans speak, recorded by Pia Ranada, a journalist with Philippine news site Rappler:

"The Americans are ... loud, sometimes rowdy," Duterte said during the Philippines-China Trade and Investment Forum.

"And they have this volume of the voice in the larynx, not adjusted to civility," he said in front of a crowd of Chinese businessmen and government officials, before launching into what appeared to be an impression of conversations he's had with Americans.

Actually, it wasn't racist. A racist comment is based on something racial. The idea of a Banana Republic has nothing to do with bananas or race. It can either be considered as a small country dominated by foreign interests or an upscale version of The Gap clothing retail stores.

actually it has everything to do with race and bananas because it originated as a reference to the politically unstable countries in Latin America, whom relied upon the economy of banana production.
