I think there is some confusion here. I think some including myself thought you were saying the story was a complete hoax as apposed to maybe inaccurate claims made by the woman.

No, I did say it was fabricated. Probably could have chosen my words more wisely. When I'm posting I'm usually doing more than one thing online, multitasking. Anyway, I guess more accurately, the story was intended to manipulate and it was full of holes. In at least one of the articles, the news source quoted the person's medical records.

Interesting, that the writer was more interested in gleaning a couple of sentences from the medical records than they were that privacy law was violated. The reporter was trying to "out" the cops and the docs, but they were happy enough to receive stolen records that are covered by privacy laws.

Think about that for a bit, okay? Hello, HIPAA.

I'm happy for your well reasonable observation skills with the article, seeing the things missing that are KEY to making a proper judgment, and the fact that they were missing are telling, that they only included the facts that would make the issue "seem" like something racist, the gullible like Kevin G., Themis etc. would just believe what is said instead of looking how the language and facts are used to relay the information.

Now, if you were only accurate in your judgment of me. haa haa
But, at least you now see what I deal with every day with this liberals.
Yes, they are that dumb all the time.

In my own defense...I'm not stupid. I can read and critically evaluate an article, okay? I happen to live with a psych nurse. I know, in general, what the laws are regarding voluntary and involuntary 72 hour psych holds and I know that it's against the law to medicate a patient against their will unless they're unconscious and the staff can take over the situation entirely.

That's why I said in my first (?) comment that it was illegal as hell.

I wasn't sure about the law in NY, so I looked it up. Sure enough, the laws are the same regarding patients rights to refuse treatment.

One of the reasons that I went to those lengths has to do with education. Like I said, I live with a psych nurse and I have relatives, friends and co-workers who have dealt with mental health issues on various levels and in different situations.

That's why I don't go for this mocking you about seeing a therapist crap. It disgusts the hell out of me.

It's very important to me that a gullible public doesn't read this type of article and swallow it whole. Should anyone on this board, for example, choose to seek mental healthcare treatment, I don't want them to be afraid that they're going to be restrained and shot up with meds without their consent. If I were someone dealing with mental health issues and had read the article, I would be scared shitless right about now.

I want people to seek help when they need it. I want people to know what the laws state, how it generally goes with the 72 hour voluntary/involuntary holds, what happens there and I want people to know that the 8 day extension that is mentioned in the article isn't at all unusual.

I do my best to inform when I have a chance to. You guys might not like the way I do it, but I'm doing it anyway.

Doctor Steuss wrote:I was texting with a friend last night that did her residency at the county facility here.

She said that if the facility reached capacity and wasn’t fully staffed, sedatives (sometimes involuntarily) were used more liberally. She said it was justified as a precaution to protect the safety of staff and residents.

Steuss, if you don't mind, can you say what state that was?

I live with a psych nurse and another family cares for dementia patients. They won't even give the dementia patients their meds without their consent around here.

Can you say if the county facility is one that accepts folks from the CJ system?

If you'd rather not answer those questions, I totally understand.

Hey, I'm all on your side in this.
And your information is important.... likewise, I don't comment on anything myself unless I'm experienced well with it, and understand it.
But, I especially liked your breakdown of the story, how you saw the "whole" truth wasn't being told.
You took the time to explain the flaws and gaps with the article, and that is good. It's what I do when having the time.
It was just nice to see such from someone who isn't per-se an ally.
Anyway, just giving credit where credit is due. Good work.

For the spectacularly stupid, the reason this is a racist incident is because the police clearly didn't believe a black woman in Harlem could be a respected banker. Faqs' response is "this happens to whit people too you idiot."

Right.

This happens to white people too.

No need for examples. Just assert, and it shall be so.

Nevada.

It's called the Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital. It's the same one that San Fransisco sued a while back for patient dumping (i.e. giving psych patients one-way bus tickets). Here's an RJ article on that fun little practice.

Thanks. I know something about patient dumping, haven't looked at the link yet, but I'm assuming it's when they take patients and dump them on the street. I've heard about instances of it in my state. It's horrid for both the patient and the community.

I don't have any "allies" on this board. It's just little old me over here. I've always said that I'm not on a "side".

I am my own side. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
