I am sure that is because he didn't have a degree.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Which of Tolstoy's works would you recommend?

Four books to make for a caring and well rounded Christian.

1. The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Malcolm X and Alex Haley
2. Labor's Untold Story by Richard O. Boyer
3. The legend of Saint Julian the Hospitaller by Gustave Flaubert
4. Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl

The Death of Ivan Ilyich.

Big pitch for family togetherness and the worth of religion.

I enjoyed this book and think it is a worthwhile contemplation.
His book Justification , Doctrine Karl Barth and a Catholic Reflection set me on my ear.

It is an older book of his and may be more difficult to find. I read a worn copy from the public library some time past.

The Origin of Species, by Charles Darwin
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"
