So in another thread, when I was talking with Franktalk, the topic of the Eucharist (i.e. the bread and wine) came up in relationship to Mormon Temple ritual. I know a fair amount about the Eucharist in the context of the Apostolic Church--actually this is an ongoing area of my research--but next to nothing about the Eucharist as practiced in Mormonism.

I will be looking at lds.org and other "official" sources, but I was hoping to have a discussion. Certainly I have a lot of questions, such as:

Do Mormons see the bread and wine as symbols, as opposed to the literal Body and Blood of Christ?

How does the Sacrament compare to other "ordinances"? Is it understood as being in some sense primary? Are they on the same level?

Mormons see the bread and water as symbols only of the body and blood of Christ. When I was a TBM I saw the weekly sacrament as the most important reason to go to church
