Thanks for asking, Jersey. I got a message from someone I used to consider as a friend who wrote to me just to tell me how worthless I am now I've left the LDS Church. I haven't really changed all that much I just don't believe in it anymore. It's just sad that the majority of relationships in the Church were so conditional.

I got the message on NYE and I was going to post a copy on the board and comment on it. As I came to type it all that came out was this post.

Talk about venting!

There's another thread about why people don't speak up in class with challenges and questions. Responses like the one you are on the receiving end of are the answer to that thread.

When you stop believing in Mormonism you find out who your true friends are.

The point is that you have seen beyond the BS. You can never go back. You can pretend to go back, but it's only a game.

Maybe you are better off without this friend.

Hasa!

Don't ever do that again! I cannot tell you how it came off.

Not good!

Hey, Hasa,

I'm sorry that this friend hurt your feelings.

It sounds like he/she is a total jerk and not worth your time.

Hi, Hasa,

I am really sorry to hear about how badly your former friend treated you.

I hope you can understand that your friend almost certainly suddenly feels very insecure in his/her beliefs upon hearing of your disaffection and is probably lashing out in a misguided effort to buttress his/her world view of Mormonism.

For a lot of Mormons, it is important to brand those who leave as unworthy in some respect as a way of convincing themselves it could not possibly happen to them.

On the other hand, I hope you recognize you have lots of friends here who accept you for who you are regardless of what you believe.

All the Best!
