So, what "cognitive distortion" do you most want to get people to see, Wade?

I want to help the people uncover for themsleves the cognitive distortions that are driving the moods, emotions, attitudes, and behaviors which they (the people, themselves) would like to see changed for the betterment of all concerned.

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

You know what, Wade? I don't believe you. You have claimed that *I* suffer from a cognitive distortion, and yet there is nothing that I would like to see changed in myself.

Are you therefore admitting that this whole CBT baloney is really just self-serving, as I observed towards the beginning of this thread?

Not that it matters at all to me whether you believe me or not. But, no, I am admitting no such thing.

Rather, it is a matter of me eventually coming to accept that there are people, such as yourself, who are, for a variety of reasons, oblivious to their cognitive distortions, and thus don't recognize or acknowledge, or are in deep denial, that they need help (some desparately), and thus are not open to being helped.

Wade. Let me say this again. You said above that your sketch of CBT was designed to get people to recognize their own cognitive distortions. In other words, that CBT is meant to address "the cognitive distortions that are driving the moods, emotions, attitudes, and behaviors which they (the people, themselves) would like to see changed for the betterment of all concerned." I told you that I do not have *any* "moods, emotions, attitudes, [or] behaviors" which I, myself, would like to see changed. And yet you continue to insist that I am suffering from "cognitive distortions."

I think that, once again, we are seeing your argument unravel before our eyes. You are not interested in "helping" anyone. You are interested is serving your own selfish interests.

This is the epitomy of dysfunction--i.e people robbing themselves of the very insights and skills needed to both survive and thrive.

I have come to realize that I can't help (at least not in the way that I now intend) those who don't wish to help themselves, or who don't think they need help.

What has convinced you that *anyone* on this board "needs help"? What is your evidence, other than your own self-centered and completely subjective knee-jerk reactions, Wade? Face it: YOU are the only one who "needs help." Your fragile and overly-sensitive feelings about your "most precious and dear" Church need "help" insofar as they need shelter from the critics, apparently.

In short, I no longer harbor the false hope, like I once did earlier in my history on this board, of openly assisting such people--though I haven't lost all hope of ever covertly influencing them for good.

Sounds a bit sinister, a bit SCMC-esque.

Except that it is, as Lucretia has observed, going to be impossible for you to carry this out. All the best to you anyhow, Wade.

Wade,

Somewhere in this lengthy thread, I asked you what the driving force was behind your desire to open a board as you describe. The above comments by you appear to be at least something to that effect.

In any group of people such as a board community, there are people who are naturally compassionate and empathetic. They are the brand of people who would rush to the aide of another in trouble regardless of religious affiliation (or other types of affiliations/orientations/ethnicities) and try, if nothing else, to give them a leg up. If you would like to see the betterment of all concerned why is it that you lifted not a finger to post in support of jayneedoe whose thread title clearly stated "I Need Help!" ?

Did I miss your compassionate response to her? Could you have missed her post that remained on the front page of this board for several days?

You are the move you make.

Jersey Girl

(jaynee if you are reading here, my intention is not to magnify your personal issues but to make a point that there are people who talk the talk and those who walk the walk)
