In case you hadn't noticed, Daniel Peterson has been delighted by the arrival of DNA evidence. He loves DNA because it has shown he has been right in his thinking about the Book of Mormon for many years. DNA has shown...

Quote:
that certain folk notions about Book of Mormon populations are not true. That’s fine. I’m perfectly willing to accept that; I think that’s great. These are views I’ve already held, and it’s nice to be vindicated by DNA. I’ve already held these views for years, anyway, before the DNA became an issue. So to the extent that DNA knocks out the views of people who disagree with me, I’m not sad at all! -- Daniel Peterson, “Random Reflections on the Passing Scene,” FAIR (2003).

Well apparently one of those people with incorrect "folk notions" is the current prophet. Speaking to 22,000 Latter-day Saints gathered in Guatemala City, 24 August 2019, President Nelson said:

Quote:
The lands of Central America and South America are studded with ruins—remnants—of ancient civilizations, … One wonders what life must have been like among those people.

Add to that the message on the title page of the Book of Mormon, that it is ‘written to the Lamanites, who are a remnant of the house of Israel,’ we not only learn more about those ancient inhabitants, but we learn that the Lord cares for His children in this hemisphere, both in ancient times, and in modern times. -- Sarah Weaver “Latin America Ministry Tour: President Nelson asks Guatemalan Latter-day Saints to remember this simple advice” LDS Church News (24 Aug 2019).

What an honor to be a Mormon apologist. To be so right when everyone around you is so wrong.

Thanks for posting.

I’m just amazed at how they can bend everything around.

But I think it is interesting that Perego is pretty much the ONLY LDS academic with a genetic degree of any sorts whom tries to spin this stuff. It figures that now his academic position now is at a LDS Institute. It tells me all I need to know.

Read the comments in this thread. The best part it fleshes out the current spin mopologists have on that elusive Lamanite DNA. Dan Peterson, Louis Midgely, and Steven Smoot are all commenting heavily.

The one guy has them cornered into their stupidity on multiple posts.

Some Olympic level mental gymnastics going on.

Notice how he is just keeping it on topic WHAT the Book of Mormon itself says! This kid is great! The apologists just can't accept what the Book of Mormon actually says. Just wow...

It looks like they are ghosting him, and stoped engaging his questions.

Noooooooooooo, they wouldn't. They have the truth, and in good missionary spirituality are willing to share that truth to all comers, knaves, and picklefarts.

You not understanding the scriptures nor the prophets words is NOT them being "proven wrong".

FYI...

There was no misunderstanding of the scripture and on what generations of prophets have said about who and where the Lamanites are. It just isn’t matching reality, and facts.
