Change in science ought to make us suspicious and careful

Post by _Philo Sofee »

Peterson, one sidedly spouting off again, ignoring the obvious.

We should, of course, be very careful about wedding theology or doctrine too closely to the changeable findings of whatever contemporary science has to say. (Surely that’s one of the lessons to be learned from the story of Galileo and the Aristotelians.) http://www.patheos.com/blogs/danpeterso ... -yawn.html

Notice, it is always science that changes, and by implication which Peterson never really says directly here, but he has elsewhere and elsewhen, it is questionable and not to be relied upon as a final valid source of information. Notice what he entirely leaves out. The changes in Mormonism The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints... The nice hole any Mormon Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Sainter has, is, conveniently (and unconvincingly) is simply say of course there is change! When God speaks there is change, change is a good thing when authorized by God. What a nifty set up for testimony's. Science changes? That's because it is incomplete and therefor not reliable. Mormonism Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints changes? Of course, that is entirely the way it ought to be since God is revealing ever more truth and light! I used to tout this all the time as an apologist.

The great thing about science is we are always learning new things. Old theories are challenged as new evidence is brought to light. Nothing, not even religious doctrine, is set in stone. Obviously, Peterson thinks this is a bad thing.
