You are right!
Lying for the Lord is worse than other types of lying because you are lying for a Being who is on record as not really being down with liars.
A way to halt this practice of deception?
I think the only way is to continuously call church leaders out when they do it.
That's where Radio Free Mormon comes in!
Concerning the lies you mention, the lying for the Lord is worse because it's treating people as if they don't count at all. The rant that someone caught from Holland (and I think you're right to link this to Jeremy, something that didn't occur to me) seems to expose the disrespect he feels for members generally.
Wow, just wow. I get the impression the wagon train is circling and getting ready for an all out war before it finally gets its saintly ass thoroughly kicked. The legal department is effectively running the church and Nelson is the chief acting puppet.
This church statistics blog used to be open and readable to all. Now it is restricted. It listed wards and branches that were created or discontinued around the world. There was another site for US branches and wards.
This blog is open to invited readers only http://ldsunitgrowth.blogspot.com/ It doesn't look like you have been invited to read this blog. If you think this is a mistake, you might want to contact the blog author and request an invitation.
It'll be interesting to see them put a stop to stats piece by piece, if that's their intention. First stop announcing and conference. next, stop members and others from posting some information. Soon it'll probably all be locked and hidden. I honestly can't imagine stopping it completely, but they only allow a very high level view of the numbers at this point anyway.
