Non-compete clauses are common in tech. It is an example of the free-market, but the problem is that states have limitations on the power of unions, which is the real countervailing force for this type of thing. Non-compete clauses are businesses acting as a cartel. They only work if businesses collectively get on board. Otherwise, one business makes itself a really bad place to work. You either stop that through anti-trust legislation like what is being proposed here or by allowing labor to also behave as a cartel.

Oh no doubt in the "Freedom is slavery" interpretation of freedom the church leaders believe in this is true.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

It's a freely entered contract. The problem is that it not entirely a free market environment in that businesses are being allowed to leverage their ability to form defacto cartels while labor is being legally forbidden from doing so. So in actuality it's not a free market exchange.

Sorry for the mini-derail here, Darth. However, your link to this book caught my eye for two reasons:

1) This book started my journey out of Mormonism almost 25 years ago. As a young graduate student at the University of Utah (in the pre-Internet days), I ran into this book in the U's bookstore. I was absolutely drawn to the title, and yet it felt risky to even pick up the book let alone buy it. Of course now, it's contents are absolutely tame compared to what I would go on to learn.

2) Darth, why did you go to the trouble of including a reference to this book?

Are you envisioning a scenario in which the Sanpete Gazette lures Scott Lloyd away by offering him the free turkeys?

Questions;

Why only 20 legislators? And which specific legislators?

Why at a Corporate owned venue when there is the State Capitol and its multiple meeting rooms?

Why even serve a meal?

Why not hold a public forum where input from all factions could be heard on this "important" issue? After all "righteousness" is part of the concern.

If you don't use non-compete contracts in you businesses, what does it matter if the Legislation is forwarded and passed?

How is the public good served by a News Organization rendering reporters impotent in their ability to be unbiased and report the facts for fear of loosing their income?

You own a Media Company, why not just make the salaries and benefits such that good employees would resist the temptation of leaving?

Why encumber other News Organization because of your fear of loosing good employees?

Is this the sure sign that the Theocracy is having a hard time letting go of their power?
