On average, two Utahns die by suicide every day, and 12 more are treated for attempts, according to data from the Utah Department of Health. Suicide was the leading cause of death for youth in the state from ages 10 to 17 in 2013, and more adults have thought about or attempted suicide in Utah than anywhere else in the country.

And the numbers keep rising.

please teach me! (anybody...)

is suicide a sin?

in catholicism, it is. those who commit suicide will be buried into the chases of cemetery, without any sign (tombstone or wooden cross).
as far as i know, in reformed churches the procedure is the same or similar.

is it a device to reach any kingdom - in Mormonism?

no, i have no suicidality...

In the Mormon faith (whatever it may be), suicide is considered a sin.

I had a close gay relative who took his life...he struggled for years trying to maintain what was expected of him by the church and his struggle to be himself...I can't begin to imaging the pain he went through all alone due to the expectation to be gay but not act on it and the internal need to be himself and be loved...in the end he couldn't do it and ended up taking his life with a gun.

At his funeral, his f***ing bishop, stated and I quote..."despite, Andrew earning himself the telestial kingdom by taking his own life, we can only hope that his parents live the kind of life that will make them worthy to visit him in the next life". WTF???? At the time I was about as TBM as one could be...and I'm embarrassed now to admit that I sat there with every other believer and listened to that F ing s***...instead of getting up and walking out.

Craig, that's a powerful example of the harm the church creates. It's the number 1 bomb denotator on my short fuse. We can argue doctrine and nuances of Mormonism all day long, but if someone kills themselves, we should be having a very different conversation. Some, like you, see the difference in this life and can reflect back. Others, like MG, cannot and do not.

If not now, when???

I don't think it is that cut and dried. The Church recognizes that depression is not a sin and that suicide is frequently the result of depression. They also realize that God does not wish us to endure insufferable pain from a terminal illness. Schadenfreude is only for the McConkieists and not the LDS Church as a whole.

And Catholics today say that we have no right to judge. Which still gives people the motivation to fight the thought.

Even if you leave the church..somewhere in the psych is the "you are not good enough" mantra that plays over and over. I live this sometimes..I understand why people in this state have a problem.

Try the mantra that the Church wasn’t good enough to keep you.
