The music in the pornography thread got me thinking about music and church standards. I struggled with the church and its attempt to define good music. I can't stand church hymns and never felt it. The only hymn I ever liked was 97 "Lead, Kindly Light". MoTab for eternity sounded like hell to me. One of the most disappointing aspects of the Celestial Kingdom to me was going to be the lack of good music. I have a very wide range of musical likes. I can listen to and find value in all sorts of genres. From classical to rap, I can feel the spirit. Here are a few songs that I would sorely miss in the Celestial Kingdom as none of these bands will ever make it to the highest heaven. Good thing its a party in the terrestrial kingdom:

Well..you are just going to love this..in my piano/organ days I had a group of songs that blended togethe without stopping. I practiced this at home. I was also the one who played prelude music before Sunday School. One Sunday, I sat down to play...and it was Christmas time..where I just accidently went from Silent Night..to the Drummer Boy...you not with Jesus Christ Superstar..I did this without even thinking ..duh..! I think they enjoyed it though because I swung back to O Holy Night. But I put Jesus in the spotlight for sure that day.
I was fortunate though that I lived in a small ward where we did our own thing..musicial numbers and funerals were done with tasteful pop favorites if we wanted. In seminary, My friend an I did a devotional where we did a song with our guitars and changed Michael Jackson's "I'll BE There" to "He'll Be there..aww..the seniors were in tears!!

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir really does suck.
There is a huge disconnect between a large part of the Church and the Choir.
In my experience, most members under the age of 50 do not like the Choir at all.
I'm hoping the Choir will be completely gone in the next 20 years.
