That must've been devastating to her when that happened.

It isn't like today's times when to be excommunicated is more like a badge of honor. Back then it was more like the Scarlet Letter for someone like Fawn who had grown up LDS and a descendant of Mormon royalty.

May her memory live on as a light in the darkness for future generations to see her legacy of what she left is more important and praiseworthy than those who tried to silence her voice.

As for the excommuncation letter, that was short and sweet. Does anyone know how she felt about it?
Was she expecting it and what where her desires? I loved her book.

Fawn Brodie was a great writer. Her book has some flaws (mostly because she could not access historical evidence), but overall it was an excellent treatment of Joseph Smith's life. I'm sure she was expecting that reaction. I wish that Dan Vogel would do a critical edition of her book. It's an idea I've kicked around myself but I'm no Dan Vogel.

but I must confess Dale Morgan disappointed me. He really should have put much more time into finishing his book rather than doing so much correspondence and running around. But his openness and willingness to share important information on historical matters was second to none. In that regard he was very valuable. His book on the correspondence of Dale Morgan is quite fascinating.

Who is "His", Dale Morgan?

Philo, when you mention a book that others might like, would you mind making a link to it like this?

Is this the book you mean?

Dale Morgan on Early Mormonism: Correspondence and a New History

If so, it is available for .20 cents plus shipping for a hardbound copy on Amazon. Man, I love Amazon! My copy is on its way.
