why me wrote:We need to remember his age when all this began. He was not very old. Also, he had much to do on the farm. Not sure if he had time or motive to read books inside his small home shared with family.

You are not sure he had time. That means you are not sure if he had lots of time. We already know his parents were educated and that he was also educated even if not formally. His whole history shows he had motives to learn.

Like many small farmers, much had to be done on the farm to earn money and help the family survive.

You mean like treasure hunting?

Plus, why write a book at all?

Maybe for some of the same reasons so many others write books.

If he was as charismatic as many say he was, he could have done it all in simplicity. Why go through the motion of writing a book, having dupes say it came from god, and carry on with the dupe when he would be under constant threat of exposure by the 11 dupes? And what did he get our of it? Nothing but a headache. I am sure that religion played a role in his life as it did for many. But that would be a far shot to inventing such a plot to found a church.

Although you may not see it, but Joseph saw the value of the prop. Just like magicians. Magicians always run the risk of exposure, but if you do it right the risk can be quite low. With the Book of Mormon all he had to hide was maybe a prop of the gold plates, and with the right dupes not hard to do. If you can make a revelation to sell the copyright of the Book of Mormon(there's a motivation to write a book) in Canada, and it doesn't come true, and then convince your followers some revelations are of God, some of Man, and some of Satan, then you got the right dupes.
