Mormons at it again? DishOne scams...

Post by _ZelphtheGreat »

From the Bismarck Tribune in North Dakota. Looks as if Mormon missionary tactics are being used there. Apparently doesn't to over too well in North Dakota.

Attorney general investigates satellite company

BISMARCK, N.D. — A satellite TV company has been told to stop going door-to-door in North Dakota until authorities can investigate complaints of misleading and aggressive sales tactics.

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has ordered Dish One Satellite, LLC, of Provo, Utah, to suspend all sales and installations of satellite TV services in the state.

Stenehjem says they have received complaints that sales representatives for the company have been elusive about their employer. Some claimed to work for Midcontinent or DirecTV.

There have been reports that sales people have claimed they were checking for installation or service problems and once inside the home, badgered consumers and refused to leave.

Stenehjem says he is reserving his decision on a possible cease and desist order or other formal action until the investigation is complete.

After complaints from people in the Grand Forks area, the City has revoked a license for a satellite television service. As of Thursday, June 19, the Transient Merchant License issued by the City of Grand Forks to Dish One Satellite has been revoked.

Dish One Satellite has been conducting door-to-door sales and installation of satellite television service. The city revoked the license after several complaints from people describing business practices that would constitute violations of city code. All sales by Dish One Satellite have been stopped, but if you bought services from them and are satisfied, the service may continue until the contract is up.

The Grand Forks Police Department has made contact with the corporate office in Utah about the revocation. Both of the managers in the Grand Forks area were spoken to by Cpl. Nelson who advised them to cease and desist sales immediately.

If you have any questions, you can contact the Police Department at 701-787-8000. Questions, concerns or comments may also be directed to the GFPD website at: http://www.grandforksgov.com/police or to the GFPD Facebook page.

This one, from Los Angeles area in California has two representatives working together to try the sales tactics. A notebook and apparently a flip chart - only thing missing is the flannel board from the 60's missionary lessons.

The aggressive and misleading sales tactics created a sense of fear and confusion, particularly for elderly residents, Stenehjem said. Some were pressured to sign contracts and provide credit card information, and in at least two instances, consumers had to use physical force to remove the salespeople or prevent them from entering the home.
