That's like Jesus sending you to jail, I suppose ...

I see that it was dated 2000. How long were you there?

Wow, so the Church itself paid for this, eh? That's quite a stunning piece of evidence.

I think I know someone that went there as well.

He smoked weed and I think he did a bit of escatasy as well. His parents pretty much kidnapped him and sent him to a rehab center in Utah. Could be this I guess...

So the Boys Ranch is considered "health care"?
I always found Bishop Huffaker to be great person, what was his involvement in the decision to send you to the Boys Ranch?

Meh.

I don't know enough about it yet to comment, but I look forward to finding out.

Below is some of my favorite commentary regarding the "allegation" that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints *DIRECTLY* supports the Chris Buttars Utah Boys Ranch:

Chino, I know you're pissed about Prop 8 (the reason you wrote another Mormon bashing diary), but this isn't productive.

Let's say the title said 'Trapped in a Jewish Gulag'. Not only would it never make the rec list, but the diarist would never be heard from again. Of course I'm not advocating Chino disappear, but this diary (especially the title) doesn't belong on the rec list.

This camp has nothing to do with the Mormon Church.

Quote:
Whether some camp in Utah is doing that in the name of the church is something that should be looked into, but calling it a Mormon Gulag is a lie. Plus, the intentions of the diarist are clear. The diarist is upset with the church over prop 8 (rightfully so), but the diarist is using untrue sniping attacks to vent his anger.

I'm not really upset about the diary, as I think this ranch is a nuts, but the title and the tying to the LDS religion is not only inflammatory but also inaccurate.

That story is just another smear on the Mormon church. Probably some homo who’s still mad about prop 8 and displacing his anger on the Mormons...Also if you look at the board of trustees[*] not one of them is a leader in the Mormon church. Kind of wierd if the school really is run by the Mormons.

Here is another document that speaks to the kind of non-denominational "treatment" Boys Ranch boys receive.

This is insanity. No church should be doing this. It's a waste of tithes, and its abusive toward children.

Eric, you have my deepest sympathies. I'm sorry you had to endure this nonsense.

Too much money for a camp that treats you with kid gloves. Eric, I'll design a camp that'll have you reformed in less than a year with a money back guarantee seeing as how you obviously still need reformin'.

Just imagine how much of your tithing money The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spends on following me around with Private Investigators:

What a depressing situation to be in.. held against one’s will for years, and made to accept very delusional beliefs of those in control.

Eric,

you have my sympathies, if you are ever in the DC area I will buy you lunch or whatever, you just have to find a sitter for my kids (joking about sitter).

I had a situation on a lesser scale that involved Church leadership but to this day only a handful of people no about it and I am not sure I will ever discuss it in full (sorry to give a teaser and pull away). F%$ked up.

Edited to add: this is ruthless and really is child abuse.

Shocked. The Mormon mafia isn't just an unsubstantiated rumor.

So, doing the math you were in the mormon lockup for 40 months?

You should write a book about this experience.

Actually, Eric is working on a book and a movie, right, Eric?

I believe he completed a documentary which he produced on the Internet.

Eric, you definitely experienced child abuse. I am so sorry you went through this.

You are a bright young man, and I think that you have grown in spite of this awful experience. I honestly hope that through your efforts, and your former classmates' efforts, this facility can be shut down. It violates so many laws, I have no idea how it is still open.

*Cyber hugs to you*

Is there a link to the documentary?

Thanks
