Did Joseph Smith hear the name YHWH but erroneously write down Jehovah due to his limited KJV Bible experience?
This name also appears in 2 Nephi and Moroni. Why would God reveal an erroneous name? I assume the answer is that Joseph interpreted God's word using terminology he was familiar with? Why would Joseph Smith perpetuate a false translation? Wasn't Joseph also fixing the mistranslations of the Bible?
It looks like (based on what I've found so far) that if God whispered the word YHWH to Joseph, he would hear something like Yeho-wah and would thus spell it accordingly.
...So if he was using terms and names he was familiar with to support a loose translation, where did he get the name Shulem?

It's not a "false translation." It's a transliteration, but it's not something that can really be paradigmed as "true" or "false". The Wikipedia article has a good basic breakdown of the English transliteration.

I looked at the Wikipedia explanation and it summarizes with this statement:
In A Dictionary of the Bible (1863), William Robertson Smith summarized these discourses, concluding that "whatever, therefore, be the true pronunciation of the word, there can be little doubt that it is not Jehovah".
W.R. Smith's summary is based on many discourses and previous research, as it appears.
Maybe William Robertson Smith should have assisted Joseph Smith Jr. with the Joseph Smith Translation??
